Here’s what regional farms will be harvesting this month, from The FruitGuys produce buyers:
WEST

California is lucky to have fresh picked produce even in the winter! We have clementines, mandarins, and tangerines, in so many varieties, shapes, and sizes! Look out for Cara Cara oranges from Homegrown Organics. Grapefruits and Minneola tangelos are also coming off the trees, so fresh and flavorful. We’ll be getting delicious organic vegetables from Coke Farm this month. Beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, carrots, and collard greens are being harvested, as well as lettuce, parsnips, and potatoes. It’s the perfect time for making soups and roasted veggie dishes!
EAST

Blood oranges and Honey and Royal Mandarin tangerines are coming. Carrots in orange, maroon, and yellow varieties, cabbage, and fennel, plus lots of mushrooms. Regional apples will include Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Cameo, Winesap, and Nittany. Fresh herbs will include rosemary, sage, and different mints.
MIDWEST

Look for locally harvested winter squash and yummy leafy greens such as kale and collards, sweet potatoes, leeks, and Brussels sprouts.
SOUTHWEST
It’s a rainbow! We’ll have yellow, red, and rainbow carrots; plus baby carrots in red, yellow, purple, and rainbow; Chioggia beets with their bulls eye mark, plus gold and red beets too; rainbow, yellow, and red chard; Lacinato (AKA Dinosaur), Curly, and Red Russian kale; bunches of white turnips, plus Romaine lettuce hearts!
