WEST
Happy Chinese New Year! We are celebrating citrus season with organic Pixies from Beck Grove and Murcotts from Friends Ranch. Ojai Valley Pixie tangerines will be harvested towards the end of February, weather permitting. Meyer Lemons from Karen Morss, the Lemon Lady, will be in office boxes, with blood oranges, grapefruit, and Page mandarins as well. Lettuces and brassicas have been hit pretty hard by the cold weather, but you’ll see some delicious chards and kales. Root veggies are still going strong, and be sure to enjoy the garlic and ginger in our TakeHome boxes during flu season!
EAST
We’ll see greenhouse grown salad greens, tomatoes, and herbs from various farms in New Jersey this month. Potatoes and mushrooms of many varieties are in season. Fresh cranberries will be out of season soon, so get that jam made. Florida citrus this year is showing up with scarring and soft spots, so we’re getting citrus from California, such as murcotts, tangelos, and blood oranges. Now is the time to eat or juice grapefruit – they’re so good!
MIDWEST/CENTRAL
We’re getting Brussells sprouts, carrots, and radishes from Iron Creek Farm in La Porte, Indiana. Mushrooms from River Valley Ranch Farm in Burlington, Wisconsin, are ready to harvest and enjoy. We’ll see dried peppers, kale, and celeriac from Genesis Growers in Saint Anne, Michigan.
SOUTHWEST
We’re enjoying beets, radishes, and greens grown locally at Duncan Family Farms in Goodyear, Arizona, and citrus from Patagonia Orchards, in Patagonia.
